SHORT THOUGHTS: In the verses below, I find it interesting that it is totally our choice as to what we put on, how we will interact and ultimately, to what people will see. The verse is asking us to do something very specific, suggesting that we choose to put on these things, much like we choose our outfits before going out the door to work or school or wherever, dressing appropriately. And in that, the choice is still ours to “put on or not to put on”...or maybe to put on something else entirely different.
We can choose to clothe ourselves with many other things. Selfishness and/or pride for example. But they won't match the other beautiful things God is asking us to put on if we do. It will be like a checkers and stripes kind of thing. There is no way they will ever blend. What fellowship does darkness have with light? We just become a distraction to what we say we believe.
I also love it that it says "love" is what joins them all together. In my mind, I see that as a big fluffy beautiful robe that goes over the top of all the other things God is asking us to put on.
We need to dress well my friends. Many are looking to see Jesus and they need to be able to see Him in us. In fact, we may be the only Jesus some people may ever see. A very sobering thought indeed. They may be drawn to or driven away from God by our witness of the One we say we love. What are you wearing today?
Father, please help me to reflect Your Son well and to give deeply from all that I have been given.

Colossians 3:12-14 (NIV1984)
Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.
