SHORT THOUGHTS: We all wear masks in this life. Ever since the first sin in the Garden of Eden, we have been looking for something to hide behind. Ever since the first fig leaf outfit, when God yelled out, "Adam, where are you?"...we have been hiding and often running from God.
In the garden it was hunkering down and then creating clothing because for the first time, Adam and Eve noticed that they were naked. And figuratively speaking, we cover ourselves the same way.
Maybe we are hiding behind our hobbies or the sports we play. Maybe we are hiding behind our jobs, our positions or our education. Maybe we are hiding in the company we keep or things we consume or do to our bodies to make all the pain go away. Maybe we are hiding behind our humor, sarcasm or just plain sassiness. Whatever it is that we are using, we get some kind of security, some kind of self value or protection from it. But none of that is who we really are, is it? We are the naked one that lies underneath it all.
But though we may be able to hide behind masks and fool many people in our everyday lives, God, our creator and lover of our soul...sees right past it all to the very depth of our souls. We are hiding while God is seeking. And if we are carefully listening, I believe we can hear Him asking us to surrender all that creates distance between us and Him. Mask by mask, step by step...closer, closer and closer to Him, He invites us to come.
What about it? The question remains. Will you come? The choice as always...is yours.
