SHORT THOUGHTS: There are so many religions in this life telling us the way to get to God. Do these things...don't do that. Give up this...adopt that. All with the goal of moving us closer and working our way to God. All religions except for one that is.
As a Christian, you don't find your way to God. God, the creator of the universes, the heavens and the earth, the stars in the sky, the forests, the rivers, the oceans and the creator of you and the creator of me...came to us.
In Christianity, we are saved by grace, not by works. God, in His great love for us, sent His only Son, Jesus, down to us to bridge the gap between God and man. Jesus actually became one of us, fully God and fully man, and gave everything for us, all the way to giving His very life for OUR sins. Yes, OUR sins. Our only job? Except by faith what has already been done for each and everyone one of us on earth. We can add nothing to or take anything away from what Jesus did for us. It is simply...a gift for us to choose.
After we accept that gift, it is the work of the Holy Spirit to begin to teach us, guide us and mold us each and every moment into the likeness of Jesus. He will teach us to love God with all of our heart, soul, mind and strength and to love others with the same kind of love that we have been shown. It is the Holy Spirit's job, with time and effort, to sanctify us. That sanctification is a lifelong process. A changing of a caterpillar into a butterfly finally being complete when we pass from this side of eternity into the next. Then, when we see Jesus, face to face, we will finally be like Him.
There are many choices in this life but Jesus said that He was the way, the truth and the life. And further that NO ONE comes to the Father except through Him. It is His blood sacrifice that makes us acceptable to the Father. Without the acceptance of what Jesus did for us, no matter what we do or how hard we try, we fall short. It is only by the Blood. NOTHING BUT THE BLOOD of Christ and the acceptance of that gift will make us worthy and make us born again, in Christ.
Think about this truth as you listen to this very old song. Thank you, Jesus, for all you have done for all of us.
John 3:16-17 New International Version (NIV)
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
Ephesians 2:8-9 New International Version (NIV)
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
